PUZZLE 119

Puzzle 119 – “A Little Spicy”

puz here / pdf here / solution here

Back with a themeless that’s just the tiniest bit wider than usual, to allow for three 16-letter spanners going across. Those were the three seed entries here–all of which, in different senses of the phrase, could be described by this puzzle’s title. Meanwhile, I like the somewhat coincidental symmetry of the first and last across entries.

Favorite clues here: 60-Across is my favorite question-mark clue that’s showed up here in a bit. And 19-Down for the fun fact.

I think the cluing here is a little gentler than last week’s tough-but-fair. Hope you dig it.

As always, comments welcomed. Please enjoy. Happy solving, friends.

  1. Solid! Thanks!

Didn’t know Shaffer wrote that song!

  2. TIL (today I learned) two things: there was an American jurist named “Learned Hand”, and that there is a lime variety called the “finger lime”. To take that last tidbit four steps further, there is a lime called “Buddha’s hand”, which might be five finger limes grown together, lol! (See link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fingered_citron)

  3. Very good! I enjoyed this.

  4. 3D is such a good misdirect. Had me for a bit there 😆
