PUZZLE 220

Puzzle 220 – “I Like You”

puz here / pdf here / solution here

Hey yall. Puzzles from me, out in the wild (i.e., not on this blog)! First, another themeless, came out at the end of last week, thanks to the fine folks at AVCX+. You can download the puzzle here for a buck… or you can support all the great stuff AVCX does with all kinds of puzzles (and not just at Lil AVCX, where I’m an editor).

Coming up this Saturday, the 30th, I’ve got yet another themeless ahead, this time in the LA Times. It’s a collaboration with Brian Callahan, who posts great stuff over on his own site as well. That one’s available at their site or over at GoComics.

This week’s puzzle (another themeless!) is titled “I Like You.” 15-Across says I like you, and so does 61-Across. But most importantly, that phrase is also the title of the completely bonkers and utterly brilliant guide to entertaining written by the Actual Damn National Treasure that is 65-Across. If you’re not familiar, click here to see her genius at work (spoiler at link, obviously). If you are familiar, click there anyway just to behold the wild joke-per-minute ratio.

As always, comments are welcomed. Hope you enjoy. Happy solving, yall.

  1. So much great stuff in this, Matt! I really admire your themeless grids. Love all of the music references, especially the crossing of giants at 32-Down and 42-Across. Just a couple of days ago I was playing around with the song mentioned in 31-D as part of one of my own clues. And I love your clue for 43-Across. Here’s to butterflies (those evil temptresses….)! : )

  2. Love it! But wait, wait, wait… I thought Americans didn’t call it 23-Across?? This is a major point of Canadian pride, that only we call it by its “correct” name 😉 … and yet here it is right there in your puzzle! Maybe it’s here as a nod to your Canadian friends because “you like us”? Do explain.

    • That’s what I grew up calling it for sure (and I think many others in the Deep South did too, maybe?)… I’m aware it’s also a Canadian-ism (thanks to Barenaked Ladies, of course, haha)… but it may also be a Southern-ism. We should investigate.

  3. Good one. thanks.
