Puzzle 215 – “Listen to the Music”
puz here / pdf here / solution here
Yall, I swear, the hardest part of getting a puzzle up here every week–at least for me–is not the actual construction, it’s giving the dang things titles. This one… well, yeah, we wind up with a lot of musical clues in themelesses of mine, and this one’s no exception. But I don’t think I’ve had three references to sound that are as disparate in concept as 22-Across, 45-Across, and 54-Across (all worth, in their varied ways, listening to). Or at least that’s the logic of the title I settled upon. Favorite clues here: the 10-Down / 11-Down pairing.
I’m back at Crossword Flow again this Friday, if you’re an iPad solver. And maybe I’ll see you in the Twitch chat at the Boswords summer tournament this Sunday: it’s not too late to register, and if you’re new to tournament solving, any of the Boswords events are fantastic places to start, and not just because you can solve from home.
Happy solving, yall. Comments welcomed, as always. Hope you enjoy.
Another great one – lots of fun clues, and thanks for the 1D shout-out! Didn’t know about the National Geographic flexi – super interesting. And I’m going to have to spin a certain Phoenix song now…
Had the Phoenix track stuck in my head the rest of the day after I uploaded this one.
Loved this, Matt; it has your usual trio of great flow, fill and clues. One of your musical answers brought a smile to my face. The first rock concert I ever attended was on Springsteen’s tour supporting the release of The River, back in 1980. Boston Garden sang along to every word of 22-ACROSS. Great memories.
Wow, I am JEALOUS! I will not claim to be a Springsteen expert, but that’s my favorite album of his, easily. (My first show was Ben Folds, which I’ll stand by for sure.)
I truly like your puzzles that feature a lot of music from the ’65 – ’95 era. Keep on rockin’ in the free world (while it lasts, lol)!
(I forgot to add that I bought the “Songs of the Humpback Whale” on regular vinyl LP back in 1975. It was pretty cool back then, and probably a collector’s item now.)
I read up on that record a touch while researching that clue. Definitely sounds like that must have been at a time!
Great one! thanks!
Uh oh, now you got me wondering why this one is a “great one” when most weeks it’s a “good one”…
