Puzzle 166 – “Context Clues”
puz here / pdf here / solution here
The seed here (and title inspiration) was indeed 31-Across, but for the record, I built this grid *months* ago, back in the spring. I’ve also been sitting on the clue for the spanner at 7-Down for quite some time. Other favorite clues: 1-Down is a silly one. 29-Down will be a blast from the past for some of yall (if you know you know). 31-Down: what a great moment (spoiler at link).
I sense this one will play a little tougher than the last couple themelesses I’ve posted here. Still, I hope some good entry points abound.
As ever, yall, happy solving. Comments welcomed. Hope you enjoy, friends.
Definitely took a bit longer than usual – a totally fair, and fun, challenge! 33D was a new word to me for sure. Also always appreciate a Demon Barber reference…
The 33D / 46A crossing is not ideal, but maybe we can also file it under Fun Things To Learn About.
agree. had to guess
Delightful as always!
That’s very kind. Glad you enjoyed!
Yes, this one was tough for me, but I sussed it out and finished with no errors. (And thx for the mention of actor Bill Paxton, who I still admire!)
Good work! Even when I skew these a little tougher, I try to make sure they’re still fair.
good one thanks!
Learned a new word. 7D
How on earth did you know 29D?
29D? I’m a renaissance man, I guess…
Indeed. You know everything from Soaps to Notes
I try.
