PUZZLE 154

Puzzle 154 – “You Are What You See”

puz here / pdf here / solution here

Back to themeless this week. Seed entries here were 22-Across and 50-Across, and those who know me well will be surprised at the cluing angle for 22-A. (Once 26-Down entered the mix, I didn’t want to tread similar ground all that much.) Title refers most directly to 17-Across, but there’s some oblique title-adjacent relevance throughout this grid, turns out…

Favorite clue here is probably 58-Across for the fun fact. A few misdirects are in here along the way too.

As ever, comments are welcomed. Hope yall enjoy. Happy solving, friends.

  1. I think 3D is just generally such an evocative word! Love to see it in here. Got caught a little bit on 49D/63A – but figured it out in the end. Another great puzzle!

  2. For many years I played 41D and only with this puzzle discovered I’ve been using the non-preferred alternate spelling all this time.

  3. Good puzzle. I also missed the cross of 49D and 63A at first.

Sound of Music clues appear in 3 out of 4 of your last puzzles. 2 of 4 had reference to 44A. Old movie phase? 😂

    Thanks as always!

  4. Hi Matthew,

Just did a few of your themelesses, and I am awed by how smooth they are. I know you’ve been doing this for a while, but the quality of your puzzles is consistently great. Thanks for continuing to put these together, and I look forward to more from you in the future.
