PUZZLE 101

Puzzle 101 – “A Fond Farewell?”

puz here / pdf here / solution here

We’ll be back to the usual 15×15 themelesses soon, I promise… but one more slightly oversized one (17×17) for this week, with a theme. And fair warning: possibly the toughest thing I’ve posted here… or at least, the only thing I’ve posted here that leans hard on a NYT-Thursday-style bit of trickiness.

(If you need a hint–or if you’re having a moment of “how do I enter this properly in this software” frustration–please click here.)

Tip of the hat to Will and Chris and Matt for test-solving this one some time ago.

As always, comments are welcome. Happy solving, yall. Hope you enjoy.

Had so much fun solving this! From the quizzical looks, to the a-ha moments, and everything in between. 35, 36, 37D were the sticking points for me… but I figured my way through them eventually.

I enjoy your puzzles because they’re always informative and fun. And thanks for the links to puzzles by Will Eisenberg and Matt Bucher. I’ve downloaded a few from both of them and hope they turn out to be as good as yours!

    • Sure thing! And if you haven’t noticed the list already, scroll all the way down on this site for a set of links to other indie crossword sites. Lots of good stuff out there.
