Puzzle 90 – “Just a Couple of Dudes”

Before any notes on this week’s puzzle… exciting news to share! I learned this weekend that I’ll be one of the constructors for the new Boswords Spring Themeless League. If you’ve never participated in a crossword tournament before, this is a great one to get started with, and you can still sign up. It’s fully online; you can choose to compete in a division of lower, medium, or higher difficulty; and there’s only one puzzle each Monday night of the tournament (and if you wind up doing one later in that week, no problem).
Boswords keeps one slot in their slate of constructors empty for open submission, and I’m thrilled and honored that they chose my submission to be part of this season’s league.
To this week’s puzzle: I realized after constructing and cluing that this one is a little unusually Dudely McDude for me, hence the title. 8-Down: just a couple of dudes. 6-Down: sometimes about just a couple of dudes. 1-Across: same. And of course, 67-Across: a dude of a type that we get into as many puzzles as possible around here.

Good puzzle. I had trouble in the bottom left because I don’t know who 67 across is. I will now be googling that and what 58 across’s codenames are!

Boswords uses the same grid for all three difficulty levels, with three different sets of clues. So I’ll be writing easier, medium, and tougher clues for all of the entries in that tournament puzzle. You can still register in your choice of divisions at their site!
LOVE LOVE LOVE the clue/answer for 67-Across. Made me smile huge as I solved it.
