Puzzle 45 – “New Day Rising”

Seed entries here were the zig-zagged set of long-ish answers at 30-Across, 30-Down, and 10-Down (related to the title).
I really like the 8- and 9-letter entries in this one… which means there’s probably a touch of less-than-desirable short fill, but alas, these are the things we weigh in making these grids happen, no?

Completed the puzzle, enjoyed the puzzle, but puzzled by the title. I scanned columns up, but that didn’t make it clear. What am I missing?
