Puzzle 234 – “Get Serious”
puz here / pdf here / solution here
40-Across asks you to get serious, hence this one’s title… but these things are supposed to be fun, after all. As I remind friends who solve from this blog on occasion, this isn’t homework. Clicking reveal word is not cheating, nor is looking up an answer.
This themeless grid’s seed entry didn’t make the final version, as I had to clean some things along the way to avoid dupes. It happens. All it means is that I can try that seed entry in another grid, one that might wind up here… or someplace else.
Favorite clue here: 24-Down.
As always, comments are welcomed. Happy solving, yall. Hope you enjoy.
Nice one! I, too, enjoyed 24D especially.
Thanks so much!
Nice one this week! And hey, congrats on the AVCX trivia win, too…
Hey, you put your name in enough hats, and eventually it’ll get drawn out of one of them, I guess…
I second Josh’s congrats on the AVCX trivia win. 34-Across = fun fact! Love both 40- and 52-Across…great expressions. 14-Across is a new term for me. I know 12-Down as a pretty ‘meh’ mid-80s movie with Robert Redford (RIP) and Debra Winger. I’m always impressed by how smooth your themeless grids are.
It’s a *lot* of wordlist rescoring work, it turns out, but it pays out in grid smoothness big time, I’ve learned!
good one thanks
you’re welcome as always
24D is great, but 23D is sublime.
Haha, I do like that pairing side by side in this grid, too…
