But right here and right now, we’ve got a new themeless. The 56-Across was 56-Across (ha!), hence the title. Favorite clue: gotta be 39-Across. If you’re not familiar with 54-Across, please enjoy (spoiler at link).

Never knew 9D; interesting! That DFW essay mentioned in 26D is a classic. Gary Shteyngart had a similarly themed one in The Atlantic within the last few months. Also excellent.
I had prominent 9D’s for way longer than was really a good idea, but they became a trademark, so whaddaya do…
Oddly enough, just saw 15D a couple nights ago here in Minneapolis! Hadn’t seen him before – he’s great live. Fun one – and a fun Lil too!
I heard him about a year ago in Jackson. So much fun.
